Bastide Sainte Marie is a grand old manor house with all the Provencal charm you want and space for a large family or several small families to get together for their holidays.


We had a lovely time at Bastide Sainte Marie. The house is so beautiful – a traditional Provencal house. The garden is well looked after and the sunsets  are spectacular.

Lorgues is a very small town, beautiful too. We were close to the amazing cities we wanted to visit – Monaco, Antibes, St Tropez. We had a wonderful time.

Good experience. Nice and well maintained large family house, very pleasant swimming pool, secure and with access close to the house but on a lower level. Children can be easily supervised because they can be seen from almost any part of this house on the ground floor.

The region is beautiful and the busy village of Lorgues is nearby.

Five minutes away: pony club and vegetable producer with direct sale to the public.

The house comprises of 6 en-suite bedrooms – 3 in the main house and three in an annex next to the main house. All bedrooms in the main house have double beds (160 x 200 cm) and have direct access to the garden.

In the main house you also have a well-equipped kitchen with air-conditioning, 4 ring gas hob, electric oven, microwave oven, dishwasher, filter coffee machine and Nespresso machine. There is a breakfast/dining area in open plan with the kitchen. In the adjoining pantry you have two large fridge freezers for food and drinks, iron and ironing board, washing machine and hoover, shelves for food storage and utensils for keeping the house clean.

From the kitchen, a long hallway gives you access to the grand open-plan salon/lounge with double-height ceilings, exposed beams and a mezzanine area. The salon is tastefully decorated in keeping with the style of the house with period paintings, furniture and ornaments alongside more modern interior, such as a large white leather corner sofa in front of the open period fireplace, Italian rattan sofa arrangement and a large wooden dining table for 12.

From the salon you have direct access to a covered terrace with views to the garden. There are further windows higher up letting plenty of light inside to give this magnificent room a bright and airy feel. Via a staircase you reach the mezzanine area, which has a large flat screen TV (international channels), a cosy sofa and chairs and a dining table – a perfect place for children to enjoy a movie or play board or card games, when they have had enough of the sun.

From the mezzanine you have a fantastic view over the salon and the surrounding landscape and garden.The house has wireless 30 MB satellite Wi-Fi for internet connection and downloading of movies etc. Please read the T&C on our website about use of Wi-Fi in our houses.

Further down the hallway you find the three double bedrooms, all en-suite with bathtub/shower (cubicle), toilet, basin and bidet and separate access to the garden. These three bedrooms all have air-conditioning. One has a flat-screen TV.

The annex comprises of 3 en-suite bedrooms with bath/shower rooms including basin and toilet, two rooms with twin beds (90 x 200 cm) and one room with a double bed (160 x 200 cm).

These three bedrooms all have a fan.

There is also a small kitchenette with a 2-ring gas hob and a fridge, a small dining table/chairs and a cupboard. This annex is perfect for teenage children or grand parents, who might want their own space from time to time. To keep the rooms cool you can close the shutters during the hottest hours of the day to benefit from the thick insulating stonewalls.

Bastide Sainte Marie is a grand old manor house (300 m2) with a separate annex (140 m2) and an original orangery set in 7 hectares of olive grove with magnificent panoramic views over the surrounding landscape and mountains beyond.

The setting is very peaceful and perfect for a relaxing holiday for a large family or several smaller families. The caretakers live next door in a separate dwelling screened and in comfortable distance from the Bastide but close enough to be at hand for any questions or smaller issues you may have, which they are happy to be of help with.

From the main road you approach the Bastide via a long driveway past the numerous stone terraces or ‘restanques’ with many old olive trees. There is plenty of space to park 4-5 cars at the side of the Bastide near the entrance.

From the house you also have direct access to the long covered terrace, which spans the whole garden aspect of the house. Here is a dining table for outdoor dining, a wooden furniture arrangement, a gas barbecue and views to the large well-maintained garden with a lawned area for relaxing in the shade of the large old mulberry trees. The garden has many flowering bushes and trees making it a pleasant place to relax.

There is plenty of outdoor furniture including numerous loungers, tables and chairs, so it is always possible to find a place suitable for full sun, shade, out of the breeze etc.

The imposing orangery situated between the main house and the annex has many citrus trees and adds to the original Provencal feel of this house.

On the other side of the lawned area you find the large 16 x 6 meters swimming pool, fenced for the safety of small children and accessed by a locked gate. The pool has a depth from 1.20 m to 2.40 m. There are numerous loungers with cushions, two large and a couple of small parasols. Here children and adults can enjoy the cool water and the amazing panoramic views.

The house is late on the market this year and has a limited number of weeks available in season 2019, hence the very reasonable prices. So if you haven’t yet found the location for your summer holiday and want a bargain price for a large house in the Provencal countryside in close proximity to the Roman village of Lorgues with all amenities, then please book quickly!

Restaurants, food & wine

There are numerous bistros and restaurants in Lorgues and in the surrounding area for all tastes and budgets, from the famous restaurant Chez Bruno just outside Lorgues known for its truffle-based specialities, to traditional French cuisine and family friendly Italian restaurants. The renowned wine Chateaux in the region welcome visitors all through the year.


In Lorgues, about 10 minutes drive from the house, you find Lorgues Tennis club and just outside Lorgues, on the road to Vidauban/Les Arcs, you find a pony club, where children can have riding lessons.

The area is wonderful for biking, both mountain biking and street biking. If you want to rent bicycles, please ask us and we will help you. Lorgues also has good playgrounds and an adventure (climbing) park close by. The beaches of the Mediterranean coast and the Gorges du Verdon are all within 45 minutes drive.

In Lorgues and in the nearby medieval villages, you can visit historic sites, local markets and festivals. For sports lovers: golf, cycling or mountain biking, walking, bathing, fishing, canoeing etc. can be found in the surrounding area.

The rental price includes gas, water and electricity.

Obligatory end cleaning is paid on arrival and amounts to €250. If you only rent the main house the cleaning fee is €180.

Optional bed linen is charged at €12.50 per person and bath towels (not to be used by the pool) at €10.00 per person paid on arrival.

Payment conditions: A rental agreement is made in the booking process, where the tenant will pay 25% of the total rental price as a deposit within a week. 8 weeks before arrival the remaining 75% of the rent plus the safety deposit (€500) is paid. The safety deposit will be paid back to the tenant after successful end inspection of the property, at the latest 7 days after departure by bank transfer.
